Interesting facts about me

I don"t own a tow vehicle, other than my 1988 Chevrolet extended cab 1/2 ton, used to tow my 1966 GTO drag race car. 9.17sec.144mph. I did drive over the road with 3,000,000 miles with no accidents.I drove a "wrecker" back in '59 to get my '52 Chev. conv out of the ditch. No problem until I let it down to unhook. Car rolled forward ant the bar went thru the grill, Made a new grill out of tubing, no problem.Next time I was working at a "service station", remember them???1962 ( speak to customer, install nozzel, clean windshield, headlights, mirrors, back window and taillights. Finnish gas up . Collect the $1.65 for the gas and thank customer) Bossman tells me to take "wrecker, 1949 1/2 ton Ford. Drive 2 miles to accident for a car wrapped front end around telephone pole. Hook chain from "wrecker" to car and pull from pole. Back up to car and proceed to hook up.Oh No!!!! no power take off. BIG hand crank. That was the last time for my time as a "wrecker" driver. I enjoy reading the post from you guys and ladies about the towing and recovery business. You do a great service and job. I have learned a lot from the visits. Good luck Stay safe and God bless you all. Take care, JIMMY

Jimmy Your comments about pumping gas reminds me of my second full time job.A Gulf oil station in Vanceburg Ky. We were taught to greet the customer then "fill 'er up ? check your water and oil"?????Clean windows, etc check air in tires and many times even check the spare. I remember very few times a fill up totaled more than $5.00.My wrecker experience came much later 1970 but we did have a hand crank 51 GMC for recoveries back in the brush.
